The University of Sydney team studying “Multispecies Justice” would be better off doing something useful with its time and funding, Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said.
Fourteen researchers at the University are investigating the rights of those that are “more than human”, which apparently includes plants, according to a report in The Australian.
“University of Sydney’s study seems to be out of touch with everyday people,” Minister Littleproud said.
“Rather than researching the justice for plants, they could be investigating how to feed the world sustainably, or how to farm with less water, or how to cure cancer.
“Who was sitting around with so little to do they thought they’d examine justice for plants? How far does this go? Are Australians to be guilt tripped for eating lettuce now?
“How much does this study cost? How was this research funded?
“Surely there are more important questions to be answered than ‘what justice across the human and natural world might entail’?”
